The County's New Lifestyle Magazine
You, your family and your world
A very warm welcome to Shropshire Woman – the only magazine exclusively dedicated to female readers throughout the county.
We hope you like our approach – we aim to appeal to women of all ages and from all walks of life, by bringing you features and articles which are relevant, entertaining and sometimes controversial!
We are proud to introduce an interesting team of local contributors, covering topics as diverse as education, fashion, parenting, health, careers, motoring and sport. In addition, we are seeking to raise awareness of some of the real-life issues which affect us in this beautiful part of the world. We celebrate what Shropshire has to offer in terms of food and drink, homes and gardens, days out and local arts, and through our ‘What, Where, When’ section we will be providing your essential guide to what’s happening in the county and beyond.
In this launch edition, we bring to you the shocking and sombre truth about how domestic abuse affects an estimated 12,000 women in Shropshire, and what’s being done locally to tackle this problem.
We take a look at the work of one of Shropshire’s leading charity workers, Sarah Farquhar of Oxfam, and give her a Shropshire Woman makeover.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to have your say. We hope to hear your feedback about our articles and comments on local issues in our letters page.
We all know someone who deserves a bouquet for unstinting work in the community, and every month our readers will have the chance to nominate a recipient. Shropshire Woman will also be examining the work of different Shropshire charities and, through the subscriptions and sales of this magazine, will be working to help Hope House Children’s Hospice in Oswestry.
So do enjoy the first edition of this truly cosmopolitan magazine. It’s brought to you by real Shropshire women (and just a few men!) and we cordially invite you to share our passion for getting the most out of life in the county.
You can purchase the Shropshire Woman from your local newsagent, or subscribe via this web site here.
